Juhree Veach grew up in a small town in southern Illinois. Early on she was infatuated with the country landscape around her and preferred the outdoors. She spent most of her summers until the age of 12 exploring and hiking in the woods surrounding her grandparents farm in St. Louis County. After graduating from S.I.U. with a degree in elementary education and beginning a career in retail, Jurhee and her husband moved to San Diego, Ca. where he attended law school and she began her family. While appreciating the beauty and climate of California, the desire to be close to family and raise her children in a more rural environment that included the excitement and color of the changing seasons, the freedom of open country and woods to explore, brought Jurhee back home to Illinois.
Shortly after her return 1983, Jurhee discovered what was to become an all-consuming dedication to her gardening. While she had always found working with color , shapes and texture exciting; she was totally captivated - working with natures palette in her gardens . She began by planting different varieties of perennials, grasses and roses and 23 years later has created delightful gardens appreciated by friends, family and neighbors. Gardening for Jurhee is not a hobby - it is a lifestyle.
Jurhee’s photographs were a natural progression from her understanding of the artistry involved in her gardening and her excitement over it’s colors and textures . She began to feel compelled to capture the allure of her garden and to share it with others. She has brought the same sort of energy & passion into her photography as she did to her gardening. She finds inspiration in the natural world around her, and is delighted at perhaps - capturing some of it’s energy and beauty in a photograph for others to enjoy.
